CEE Finance & Capital Markets Workshops 2020

This year’s workshops took place virtually from 9 to 12 November 2020 and were hosted by Freshfields Partners Florian Klimscha and Stephan Pachinger as well as Head of English Law Finance Vienna Anouschka Zagorski. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the workshop was held virtually, with several short webinar sessions.

Highlights included keynotes from Matthew Jordan Tank, Director, Sustainable Infrastructure Policy & Project Preparation, Sustainable Infrastructure Group at the EBRD, as well as Nathalie Oestmann, Chief Operating Officer at Curve and Chris Haffenden, Editor at 9fin. Freshfields Partners Natascha Doll, Peter Allen and Duncan Kellaway also contributed key insights.

In addition, we were joined by partners and associates from our StrongerTogether network in the CEE region, including AEQUO, BDK Advokati, Bezen & Partners, Boyanov & Co, Ellex, Nestor Nestor Diculescu Kingston Petersen, Oppenheim, PRK Partners, Šavorić & Partners, Šelih & partnerji and WKB Wierciński, Kwieciński, Baehr.

Anouschka Zagorski moderated a lively discussion on the post-pandemic outlook for the financing landscape in the CEE region, focusing on opportunities in sustainable finance and beyond. In the session moderated by Partner Friedrich Jergitsch, participants discussed success stories in leveraging financial innovation and shared insights in the dynamic landscape and future of fintech in CEE. Florian Klimscha moderated another session highlight on restructuring and insolvency in CEE, featuring a vivid conversation on market trends and legal developments in R&I across the CEE region. The final session led by Stephan Pachinger was all about recent trends in capital markets in the CEE region, including updates on documentation and further aspects surrounding COVID-19, and the roles of sustainability and digitalisation.
